Hello everyone! :)

Can you believe it's been (almost) a month since the Kickstarter ended? I'm so focused on the game that time flies so quickly!

In addition to the already announced Spanish and German translations, I can now announce that Demetrios will also be translated into Italian! Two young professional translators (RuM Corp.se) have accepted to do it within my budget, and they're progressing pretty fast! They've translated some famous adventure games, so they'll probably do a great job!

Darn! That doesn't fit in the menu!

The German translation is also being taken care of by a professional translator, Marcel Weyers, who has also translated popular visual novels and adventure games. And there's more good news! He's already translated all the text for the demo! It stills requires proofreading, but I may be able to make the demo playable in German soon! (Although I'll probably wait to have all languages translated before releasing a new demo.)

On the development side, I've finished the first half of Chapter 5 and I'm making progress on the second half. I'm getting closer to the end of the game, so I'm afraid I can't show much without spoilers. But here's one screen without the lighting and with some important elements missing!

Yes, I agree, that doesn't look very interesting like this... Just wait till you see "the missing elements" :p

Lately I've been working on an HTML5 demo for my adventure game Demetrios. That way, people can try the game without having to download it! (which is tedious for many people who just won't bother)

With Game Maker Studio, it's supposed to be just choosing another export type, however it's not that simple! Here are some details that will interest the game devs among you :

- The game was way too slow (Full HD is too much for HTML5 to handle) => I had to reduce the resolution, and to get real gain, I had to actually reduce the size of the graphics used. So I made scripts to reduce the files, and many other changes (graphics were wrongly placed on screen)

- HTML5 file loads are asynchronous (unlike computer versions), so this required loading the graphics beforehand (otherwise they would not appear, or way too late) This meant adding some load screens between changing rooms. Also, the "image loaded" event caused many problems.

- I had to switch from 60FPS to 30FPS to make it playable on slower computers. Again, it's not as easy as changing one variable (but now, it is!) because I hadn't planned it and had to make a few fixes here and there to make it work. 

NB : I'm not using any automatic frameskip function, because they wouldn't work with HTML5. Instead, I just double the speed of everything which has a speed in each step (example : typewriting is twice [...]

The point & click adventure Demetrios game project has progressed quite a lot lately, so it's time for a quick update status!

First, the review demo has been fully translated to French. It's working great and it didn't take a long time to implement, so this definitely opens the possibility to new languages translations for the release :) 

The language (English or French) is automatically detected on startup, according to your operating system language. (NB : It can also be changed manually in the options)

Also, Mac and Linux exports have been officially added! 

I've corrected a few things, especially some performance issues : the game would slow down more and more as you'd play it, and this also made the Mac demo crash often (memory leaks and such) Now it's fixed!

You can now download the Demetrios preview demo directly on the site (no email required anymore!) Also the Windows demo now comes with an installer, and includes DirectX installation (some people had trouble with that)

I've got a whole lot more to talk about, as I've been having great progress lately - but I'll save that for later. Stay tuned! :)

The previous demo (1.0) of my adventure game was met with very positive feedbacks so far (thanks everyone!)

Some of you have suggested a few things to improve, and have encountered some minor bugs.

So, I've made some changes :

- Added hotspots view! Just press the SPACE bar, or click the button in the top interface, to see all the things on screen. (see my previous post)

- Added "look" icon, to separate hotspots we can act on (often the most important ones), and hotspots we can look. (This might make the game a bit easier, but less daunting)

- Inventory and menu bars now open when clicking on a button (instead of hovering at the bottom / top), and stay open until we click again or leave the room

Other changes :

- Fixed the sound volume interface
- Faster text writing
- The royalty free music is now without watermark (licence bought)
- Removed Tom's accent, which most people found awkward
- Removed some useless / confusing interactions here and there
- Fixed a bug with parts of the interface staying on screen on monitors without a 16/9 aspect ratio
- Corrected some music bugs (in some cases, the music wouldn't play or loop)

UPDATE - I have removed the "subscribe to newsletter" in the section to download the demo, as it confused people who thought they might have to pay something. So, yes it is free, and you won't be getting a newsletter by doing it (unless you register on the left menu!)

Yes, that's right : I've been spending the last two days correcting bugs on the Demetrios demo in order to prepare this, and here you go! You can now try the game!

To get the demo version, enter your email at the top of the page. You will receive a private download link to it. (This is Windows only, for now). You will also receive the newsletter (you'll be able to unsubscribe later, if needed)

The demo contains all of Chapter 1. This is kinda big because it takes between one and two hours to finish it. I thought I may add a time limit, but figured it would probably annoy you, so... enjoy it!

NB : I know, I've saved there would be a demo much later, but I figured I needed this to start contacting the press. Wish me luck!

Finally!

After almost a year of work, I'm making my first video game project public with this site opening!

As the title suggest, "Demetrios - The BIG cynical adventure" is an adventure game, in the classic Point & Click kind, but with a very personal touch. And handcrafted, Disney style, high resolution art.
The game is meant to be played on computers and is planned for release in Early 2016.

I'm doing everything myself, from programming to art through composing musics. It's a lot of hard work, and I'm a programmer who has never studied art - although I'm quite happy with the results so far (but you'll tell me!)

I plan on making a trailer available soon, and then a playable demo in two months. (provided I can fix a few bugs and translate everything to french, so I can release it at the same time in both languages)
